Recently there have been many new trends in the fashion industry that are hard to keep up with. Today we will be looking at the trend of Flared pants, specifically leggings and jeans. We will see who is wearing them and where we can find them.
So who is really wearing these Flared bottoms? Well according to Lola McCollough, a freshman here at All Saints, “The people wearing this trend the most are usually girls in their mid-teens to early 20’s.” What season is it okay to wear these? Lola McCollough answers with “Fall” being the most appropriate time to wear them. But how long will this trend stay? McCollough also says, “I think it’s already kind of going out and people are kind of done with it.”
June Water’s, a sophomore here at All Saints will tell us about how she styles her flared jeans and leggings. She says, “I either style my flared jeans with a western t-shirt and boots, or like to a concert I would wear them with sneakers.” For some ideas with the flared leggings she says “with an athletic shirt and athletic shoes.” Some other ways people have been styling them is with crewneck sweatshirts and cute sweaters.
Although this trend started in the 19th century and died in the 90’s it is starting to make a comeback, but why? According to thecentraltrend.com, people started realizing again that the flared pants are fitting and flaring in all the right places. They are popping up in all of our favorite stores like Altar’d State, Aerie, Hollister and lots of others as well.
When did this trend first start? While using the website startupfashion.com, it tells us about when the trend of the flared leg came around. It first came in the 19th century. But they were not worn by women or teens but by sailors in the navy. This trend stuck firmly to the navy until around the 1960’s when people started getting into unconventional fashion. This included shopping at Army surplus stores. The favorite item to style by the young people of the 1960’s was the bell bottom pants, but after they bought them they would often alter it. This included embroidering flowers, peace signs, and other forms of embellishment. When did the trend go away? By the 1980’s skinny jeans made a huge comeback and the style of the flared pants was gone for good, or so we thought.
