Growing up in a very academic, and competitive environment could be viewed as a good opportunity for growth and development and a good chance to learn how to handle stressful situations. For others, it could be viewed as a strain on students. This paper will be covering the emotional strain that homework has on students across the country, in public and private schools. Some questions that I asked when completing this project included… Should there be a recommended amount of homework that teachers can assign? Is there a benefit to homework on weekends- or even a benefit to homework at all? Is the stress of school  “good for learning” or if some of the pressure is “too much”? Do teachers consider the students’ schedule when assigning homework? The University of San Diego said, “The National Education Association and the National Parent Teacher Association recommend that students spend Ten  minutes per grade level per night on homework.” and “The National Center for Education Statistics found that high school students get an average of 6.8 hours of homework per week, a figure that is much too high according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)”. The conclusion of my research was that even though homework has benefits, most teachers give homework just to keep the students busy.
