I’m a fisherman, and I love the outdoors, but I have a hard time finding fishing spots in the city. This is a guide to the best fishing spots in Fort Worth. Finding good fishing spots here is tough because the Trinity River doesn’t offer great fishing, which impacts the other nearby waters.
Everyone loves good fishing, but it’s hard to find great spots because no one really documents the best places to fish. There’s little research about how many fish you catch, the size of the fish, and the specific locations. Here are some of the best places to fish in Fort Worth, Texas.
1. Golf Courses
Whether it’s Rivercrest, Shady Oaks, or Mira Vista, golf courses are always good places to fish.
Out of these three, I think the best is Mira Vista. The quantity of fish there is high. I fished for about an hour and caught 15 fish. The quality of the fish is pretty good too, but it’s not the best. Mira Vista is more about catching a lot of fish. Rivercrest, on the other hand, has clean, clear water and a good population of fish. I fished there for an hour and caught seven fish, all of which looked healthy and strong, making it more of a quality fishery. Finally, Shady Oaks. I fished there for an hour as well and caught five fish, which isn’t as many as the others, but it depends on the day. Whether you’re looking to catch more fish or bigger fish, Fort Worth’s fishing spots make it hard to find both in one location.
2. Lake Worth
Lake Worth isn’t technically in Fort Worth, but it’s only about 15 minutes away from the city. It’s a completely different experience from fishing at golf courses because it’s a lake, not a pond. Lakes are much harder to navigate than ponds. You have to figure out where the fish are, since they’re more spread out in lakes. The quality of the fish in lakes is generally higher because they have more to eat and more space to grow.
I fished Lake Worth for three hours on a boat and caught 35 fish. It was a really fun day of fishing—one of the best fishing days I’ve ever had for both bass quantity and quality. However, Lake Worth isn’t as accessible as the golf courses since it’s outside the city limits. You really have to put in the time to catch fish. So, whether you’re looking for a quick hour of fishing or a whole day out, it depends on what you’re after.
