The EF-3 tornado that hit Nebraska was very devastating for tons of people, especially the families that it affected. EF-3 is a specific type of tornado, meaning that the tornado winds were going 136-165mph. These winds are very dangerous and very fast and can destroy many things including houses, buildings, and even other major structures.
The tornado went through suburban Omaha, Nebraska, hurting hundreds of families with destroying homes and other structures in its path. It went for miles long tearing up farmlands and turning everything in its way into rubble. Luckily, there were only a few injured by this tornado, but no deaths were reported.
There wasn’t just one tornado, there were multiple tornadoes reported in Nebraska and Iowa and the storm hit a big city of 485,000 people. These kinds of multiple tornados are called vortex tornadoes. They are very deadly and cause a lot of harm to those around them.
In Nebraska Lancaster County a building collapsed with 70 people inside. Thankfully, everyone seemed to be safe and unharmed with only 3 injuries, but nothing life threatening. Police and firefighters moved door-to-door and went to try to see if people were unharmed and to see if anyone needed help in the “hardest hit areas” and plan to search anywhere people could be trapped.
There are gas leaks, power outages, unstable structures, and a number of older trees were impacted as well. There were a lot of people that got hit very hard because of this devastation and the state of Nebraska.
