In the All Saints’ Community the students feel like they learn a lot at the school. However, their are some tasks they wished they could be taught that would be very beneficial to their everyday life. We sent out a survey asked the students. “What do you wish you learned in High School, and Why?” there were many different responses but here were the top ones.
Alice Harris ’27 says, “I would really like to learn how to basic cooking and sewing because I feel like it a very necessary skill to have especially when living by yourself . This was you can be able to save some money and cook yourself a meal or you can sew up a hole in your clothes instead of paying someone to do it.”
Cricket West ‘26 says, “I really wish they taught us about taxes because it would be helpful for when we get jobs and have to start doing them.”
Hope Monk ‘25 says, “I feel like we should learn basic car maintenance and uptake because cars are super expensive and I feel like my life would be a lot simpler if I could learn how to change a tire or check my oil.”
Overall 37.5% of the students feel prepared to go off to college alone and the majority of them would like to learn how to to cook and sew, and how to deal with financials. 56.3% of them prepare meals for themselves several times a week and most of them would like a home ec elective to be added to the election options.
In High School I believe personally, that it is very important to be taught basic life skills like how to cook, write a job resume, do taxes, and sew. These tasks can be very useful in preparing us for the real world because after we are done with highschool we become adults and have to start taking care of ourselves. That is why I believe it is essential to learn these things before we graduate.
The Saint News will be working to bring some of these topics to you in the future!
