The 2023 All Saints Episcopal Field Hockey team is a young team made up of many freshmen and sophomores.
The 2023 Varsity Field Hockey team consists of 20 players, with seven of them being freshmen. I interviewed two freshmen, Kate Coleman and Brooke Habash, about their experience on and off the field. Coleman has been playing for 6 years and mostly plays left defense, while Habash plays center midfield and started her field hockey career in the seventh grade. I asked them the following questions: How is it playing on the field with upperclassmen? Is it beneficial to have one team, among other questions?
Coleman answers my first question about playing with upperclassmen by saying, “They are very helpful and very supportive.” After asking her how having one team is beneficial, she states that “it helps us become a closer-knit community and team.” Finally, I asked her how Varsity is and about the workload. Coleman says, “It is so much work but worth it.”
Habash says, “They are motivating and it pushes you to do your best,” when referring to the seniors and juniors on her team. She also says that “travel games are so fun because we have an amazing bond.” She states that having one team “makes everyone work harder for a common goal.” When asking her if she thinks she would be working less if she were on junior varsity, she says, “No, Coach Weaver would still push us no matter if we were on Varsity or J.V.”
The team’s next game is against Country Day on 9/13. Then they have The Episcopal Cup on 9/15 and 9/16. This is a tournament between many Episcopal Field Hockey teams, including Saint Mary’s Hall in San Antonio and the Episcopal School of Dallas. They are ready to play and beat the Falcons and many other teams. You should come out and support as much as you can.
