The Arizona Cardinals are in a sticky situation with their quarterbacks as current quarterback Kyler Murray, the “franchise guy,” is hurt. Joshua Dobbs is now the starter in replacement after beating out rookie Clayton Tune, which has simplified it, but what does the future look like with this year’s upcoming draft?
Murray, on December 12, 2022, in a game versus the Patriots, tore his ACL when he went to make a move. He would have surgery on January 3 and start his journey back. He is currently on the injured reserve list and will not play the first four games; it’s still unknown whether or not he’ll even play after that. It is also possible he will be traded after the season depending on where the Cardinals end up in the draft.
If the Cardinals are towards the very top of the draft, which is most likely this year, they would most likely draft Caleb Williams, last year’s Heisman winner and current USC quarterback. Williams is very sought after in this next upcoming draft, but he has come out and said if the right team is not up to draft him, he will stay one more year at USC.
The Cardinals started Dobbs in a loss versus the Washington Commanders. Dobbs went 21-30 with 132 yards in the air and no touchdowns. The game was turnover city with Arizona’s defense forcing three turnovers in the first half but having 2 turnovers themselves in the fourth quarter. Dobbs and the Arizona offense had a chance to win it with under two minutes left in the game but could not convert on a 4th-and-10, letting Washington take a knee and end the game.
Right now, dark times are ahead for Arizona, and not having a quarterback makes it worse. So, what does the future of this franchise at quarterback look like? We shall find out during and after this NFL season.
