The All Saints Saints’ football team has been a powerhouse in TAPPS D2 for numerous years, but have you ever wondered what it is really like to be a part of such a team and take the field on Friday Nights?
Every football player who has ever played the game will say that Friday Nights were the best times of their lives. They felt “condemned” when they took the field. I asked Cole Edrich, who plays center at All Saints, how he felt running out of the tunnel on Friday nights. Edrich responded with,” I love it. It’s such a rush. It feels good knowing my brothers have my back.” Edrich has been playing at the Varsity level since his sophomore season. He knows what it is like to feel such a thing. Edrich was also asked how he feels trying to adapt to the changes the opponent brings out on game day. “Don’t underestimate anyone we ever play. Treat every week like it’s state week,” said Edrich. Another star player on the Saints is Quarterback Kelden Ryan. Kelden is the focal point of the team, and his composure is crucial on game days. I asked Kelden Ryan how he feels making calls with loud fans on Friday nights. Ryan responded with,” It makes the intensity of the game go up. It makes me feel more under pressure and It makes me loud so my team can succeed.” Ryan is committed to the Virginia Tech Hokies to play quarterback. He knows exactly what it takes to succeed and what it takes to keep his sense of mind and motivation on game days. Ryan was asked what he thought the hardest thing is when it comes to game time on Friday Nights. “The hardest thing on Friday nights is to make sure when bad things happen, that the team is still locked in and focused. That everyone is on the same page,” said Ryan.
Friday Nights are a rush, they are ecstatic, and they are thrilling. It is up to all the students of such a great game to bring it all together on the gridiron on Friday night, and go out and do everything they can to win.
