School shootings are happening all across America, is our sad reality. There were about 300 school shooting incidents in 2022, compared to 250 in 2021, and 114 in 2020. There are some procedures that schools across the country could take such as; increasing security, cops on campus, teachers able to carry guns, and to keep schools gated.

Increasing security on campus could be as simple as leaving the doors locked to to get in and our of building. Schools could take it up a step further by hiring an on campus officer who’s there at all times. Having an officer on campus is effective because they are properly trained and have a faster and proper reaction when compared to average person. Schools should also have cameras set up all over campus and be monitoring them at all times of the school day. Along with guard towers set up on the perimeter.

Teachers should be allowed to carry fire arms. Teachers carrying guns will allow them to react faster and more effective. But before teachers are allowed to carry guns they have gone through proper training. They should take all the courses about fire arms that cops have to take. Teachers should also have the proper background checks necessary to be handling a fire arm. It is important to know your rights with a firearm because it could cause you to spend time in prison, or even worse take a life that was meant to live longer.

As a community, we could remind students that they are welcome to open up to counselors. As a school, they should promote the fact that they have counselors available to hear the students voices and are willing to help. Counselors are there to make the students feel comfortable and possibly even prevent a school shooting and saving a students future.

A procedure that schools could afford is building a wall around the perimeter of the school. Building a wall would make it more challenging for unwanted people to get on campus. By schools having guard towers they could see if people are jumping the wall and alert authorities quickly.

Students across the nation are continuously faced with adversity. If you are a student or know of a student that needs help. Seek help with higher authorities so that they can handle it a responsible way or, even go to someone that you trust or feel that will do the right thing. If you have parents that are in your life, talk to them about your experiences with yourself or with others. If you know someone that may have a hard time making friends encourage them to attend the Boys and Girls Club,or seek outside help and resources.
