Have you ever wondered what the recruiting process for student-athletes is really like? Hudson Dalton: I’m Hudson Dalton and I’m here with Gavin Parkhurst. Today I’ll be talking about recruiting. So Gavin Tell me what schools do you have offers from right now?
Gavin Parkhurst: So I currently have one division one offer from The University Incarnate Word out of San Antonio.
HD: And tell me what other schools have shown interest in you as of late?
GP: I’d say The most interest that’s being shown right now is to Louisiana Lafayette And then some of the Ivy’s such as Columbia, Dartmouth, and Yale.
HD: Now what would you say or who would you say is your biggest contributor in this recruiting process?
GP: Coach Beck 100%. He has a phone full of college contacts that he can hit up any time of the day and they’re gonna take his word for it based on all the talent that he’s produced.
HD: And what would you say the biggest challenge is throughout this recruiting process?
GP: Just waiting and knowing that your time will come because you know, there’s kids getting offers in 8th grade, 9th grade, and 10th grade, but you just have to know that you have to wait and you might be overlooked but you’ll end up where you should be.
HD: And what would you say you wish you knew before the start of the recruiting process?
GP: I wish I knew how to market myself better and get my name out there to get more exposure.
HD: And what’s your dream school?
GP: Oklahoma State or Tulane.
HD: When do you think that the recruiting process should start considering that you’re a four-year varsity starter?
GP: I think That the recruiting process should start junior to senior year once you’re more developed and because that’s how it kind of used to be but recently It has started to begin in the middle school years for the top players in 9th grade 10th grade And I think it causes a lot of Potential recruits to get overlooked because they’re so focused on the kids that have been playing the whole time instead of maybe the kids that play now.
