After the 13th week of college football, also known as rivalry week, there were four games between rivals that ended close in one score games, and two games between rivals that ended in two score wins. These rivalry matchups all ended very well and this made for one of the most entertaining weekends of college football.
#3 Michigan hosted #2 Ohio State in Ann Arbor and beat them 30-24. This rivalry game is known as The Game. Michigan won because they did not turn the ball over compared to Ohio State’s two turnovers. They also relied heavily on their running back, Blake Corum, who had 88 yards and two touchdowns. #4 Washington hosted Washington State in Husky Stadium and beat them 24-21. This rivalry game is known as the Apple Cup. Washington won off of a game winning field goal. The reason Washington won was because of the connection between their quarterback, Michael Penix Jr. and their receiver Rome Odunze. Odunze had 120 yards and two touchdowns to help them to the win. #8 Alabama went to Auburn and squeaked out a 27-24 win over the War Eagles. This rivalry game is called the Iron Bowl. Alabama was led by their quarterback, Jalen Milroe, who had 259 passing yards with two passing touchdowns, and 107 rushing yards. They won off of a 31 yard pass on 4th down while time was expiring. #10 Louisville hosted Kentucky and lost to them 38-31. This rivalry game is known as the Governor’s Cup. Kentucky won because of their running back Ray Davis, who had 76 yards rushing and one touchdown, also having 51 yards receiving and two touchdowns.
#5 Florida State went to Gainesville to play Florida and the Seminoles left with a 24-15 win. This rivalry game is known as the Sunshine State Showdown. Florida State won because of their running back Trey Benson, who had 95 yards and three touchdowns. #12 Ole Miss played in Starkville against Mississippi State and won 17-7. This rivalry game is known as the Egg Bowl. Ole Miss won because of their running back, Quinshon Judkins, who rushed for 119 yards and one touchdown.
