After the 7th weekend of college football, three games ended in comeback wins, and another two were thrillers the whole game. The comeback games were some of the best of the season, especially in the Stanford at Colorado game. This week’s thriller games were also some of the best, especially Oregon at Washington, which could be in contention for game of the year.
Florida at South Carolina saw Florida down by 10, 27-37, with nine minutes left in the game, but Florida came back and won the game 41-39. Florida quarterback Graham Mertz was a significant reason for this comeback, as he found the open man to score the last touchdown of the game on a 21-yard touchdown pass. Stanford played at Colorado, trailing 29-0 going into halftime. Stanford’s main reason to comeback to win is their 3rd quarter resurgence, scoring 19 unanswered points. Stanford was led by their star wide receiver, Elic Ayomanor, who had 13 catches for 294 yards and three touchdowns. Stanford won the game in double overtime, and the score was 46-43. Rutgers hosted Michigan State in Camden, New Jersey, and they won the game 27-24. In the 4th quarter, Michigan State was up 24-6, but at the start of the 4th quarter, Michigan State fumbled a punt, and Rutgers picked it up and scored. Later in the quarter, Rutgers scored a touchdown, then kicked the ball off to Michigan State, but Michigan State fumbled the kick return, leading to another Rutgers touchdown to give Rutgers the lead. Rutgers’ comeback was led by their special teams, which scored a touchdown and directly caused another touchdown.
#7 Washington Huskies hosted #8 Oregon Ducks in Seattle, where the Huskies won the game 36-33 on a game-winning touchdown. This game stayed within one touchdown almost the entire game, but in the last 2 minutes of the game, when the Ducks were up 33-29, Washington’s quarterback, Michael Penix Jr., drove the Huskies down the field to score the game-winning touchdown. Oklahoma State hosted #23 Kansas in Stillwater, and they won the game 39-32. This game was very thrilling due to how many points were scored. At least 10 points were scored every quarter. Oklahoma State won because they scored 12 points in the 4th quarter, while Kansas scored none.
