After the 5th weekend of College Football, there were four games that had two ranked opponents facing each other, and two games that almost had a highly ranked team fall to an unranked team. Two of the four ranked matchups that happened last weekend ended in close one score games, and the other two were comfortable wins. The two highly ranked teams that almost fell to unranked opponents were Georgia, who had a comeback to win, and USC, who held off a 2nd half Colorado comeback.
#11 Notre Dame played #17 Duke in Durham, North Carolina where they won 21-14 in a close game till the end. One of the main reasons Duke ended up losing is because their quarterback Riley Leonard got hurt at the end of the game. #20 Ole Miss played #13 LSU at home in Baton Rouge and won 55-49 in an offensive battle that ended in an Ole Miss last minute touchdown. LSU’s loss was mainly caused by their defense in the first and fourth quarters, letting the Rebels score 21 in each. #19 Oregon State hosted #10 Utah at home in Corvallis and walked away with a win in a 21-7 defensive battle. Oregon State won this game by consistently scoring a touchdown in every quarter except for the second quarter, while also not letting Utah score till there were five minutes left in the fourth quarter. #3 Texas hosted #24 Kansas in Austin and they won 40-14. Texas was led by their quarterback Quinn Ewers, who threw for 325 yards and one touchdown, he also had two rushing touchdowns. Texas was also helped by their defense, who did not let Kansas convert a third or fourth down the entire game.
#1 Georgia played at Auburn and won their game 27-20 off of a touchdown with three minutes left in the fourth quarter. Georgia started the game slow, as they did not take a lead in the game till the fourth quarter. Georgia was led by their quarterback, Carson Beck who threw for 318 yards and a touchdown, their running back, Daijun Edwards and had a good game, running for 76 yards and two touchdowns. #8 USC went to Boulder to play Colorado, and won 48-41. USC started this game hot and had a decent lead almost the whole game, but then in the second half Colorado came out and started lighting up USC’s defense, but Colorado didn’t have enough time to make the full comeback. USC was led by former Heisman winner, Caleb Williams, who threw for 403 yards and six touchdowns, he also threw 30-40, ending with a 75% completion rate.
