After the 4th weekend of college football, there were a lot of blowout games but there were also very close games. Penn State, Oregon, and Michigan all blew out their opponents and won their games by 31, 38, and 24 respectively. Ohio State, Florida State, Washington State, and LSU all won their games closely with late touchdowns or field goals to win the game.
Penn State played Iowa, who was ranked #24, Oregon played Colorado, who was ranked #19, and Michigan played Rutgers, who is not ranked but they were 3-0 going into the game. Penn State beat Iowa 31-7 in Happy Valley, during their white out game. They won in a commanding fashion as their defense held Iowa to 76 total yards the entire game, and their offense had 397 yards and 28 first downs. Oregon won 42-6 against Colorado at home. Oregon was led by their quarterback Bo Nix, with 276 yards and 3 passing touchdowns and 1 rushing touchdown. Oregon’s defense played well against Colorado’s offense, holding them to 199 yards and not letting Colorado run the ball, holding them to 40 yards even though they had 17 rushing attempts. Michigan played Rutgers in Ann Arbor, where they won 31-7 against the Scarlet Knights. Michigan was led by their dual threat offense, with 214 passing yards, and 201 rushing yards, totaling up to 415 total yards for their offense. While their defense played fine, letting up 257 yards but stopping Rutgers before they could score on 7 of the 8 drives the Scarlet Knights had the whole game.
Ohio State hosted #9 Notre Dame at home and won 17-14 in an end game thriller. Ohio State was down 14-10 but they marched down the field and scored a touchdown with 3 seconds left to make it 17-14 and they ended up winning the game. This game was a battle of the defenses as they would stop each offense right before they could score. Florida State had another close game as they won 31-24 in overtime against Clemson, this is their second close game they have had in the past 2 weeks. The Seminoles had a last second touchdown to force the game to go into overtime, then they scored first in overtime and then stopped the Tigers in their drive of overtime. Washington State won against Oregon State 38-35, as Oregon State almost came back and won. Washington State was up 38-21 with 9 minutes left, but Oregon State scored 2 touchdowns, making it 38-35 with 1 minute left, when Washington State just kneeling the ball out to win the game. LSU beat Arkansas in Tiger Stadium 34-31 with a last second field goal to win it. LSU was led by their quarterback, Jayden Daniels who had 320 yards, and 4 touchdowns, and they were led by receiver Brian Thomas Jr. who had 5 catches for 133 yards and 2 touchdowns. The game was a shootout, as LSU had 509 yards and Arkansas had 429 yards of offense, they also had 26 and 25 first downs respectively. It ended up just being the turnovers, as Arkansas’ quarterback, KJ Jefferson threw two interceptions, one at the start of the game and one at the end of the game.
