After the 3rd weekend of college football, many of the teams that we thought were rising, got stuck in the mud against opponents that they were favored against. Alabama, Colorado, and Florida State all won their games but by a small margin to teams where they should’ve won by a lot more than they did. Arkansas, Tennessee, and Cincinnati all lost their games when they were favored to win.
Alabama played a weak USF team in Raymond James Stadium, Tampa. They only won 17-3 in a bad offensive showing against one of the worst teams in the American Athletic Conference, or the AAC. Colorado beat Colorado State in a double overtime thriller, while losing one of their best players, Travis Hunter to a late hit that caused him to have liver laceration. They were supposed to win by 23 points but only ended up winning 43-35. Florida State played one of the worst Power 5 teams, Boston College, they only won 31-29 when they were favored to win by 26 points. Boston College most likely would’ve won this game if they didn’t commit 18 penalties totaling up to 131 yards.
Arkansas hosted BYU at home, and lost 31-38 when they were favored to win by 8. Arkansas’ offensive line looked very weak and were the main reason behind their loss against BYU. Another reason for the loss is because they had 14 flags thrown on them, and that amounted to 125 yards against the Razorbacks. Tennessee lost to Florida in Gainesville, 16-29, when they were supposed to win by 5. They lost because of their slow offense and their defense couldn’t stop Florida’s offense. Saturday was a disaster for the Tennessee Volunteers. Cincinnati lost to Miami University in Ohio, 31-24 in an overtime thriller. Cincinnati was favored by 14 against the Redhawks, they lost because they committed costly turnovers at the end of the game that directly caused them to lose the game.
