Going to nail salons is now a very popular thing, but could it be getting dangerous? Some dermatologists are explaining their concerns for exposure to the UV nail dryers, and how it damages DNA and causes cancer-causing mutations in human cells.
Some better alternatives if you still want to get gel are wearing uv proof gloves with the tips cut off, putting sunblock on your hands, or even using the gel lights that only go over one finger tip at a time and not over the whole hand.
If you are wanting to cut off gel manicures/pedicures completely there are other options available. Regular nail polish does take a while to dry but it still looks great in the end. Dip can take longer to do but they last really long and they can’t peel off. And then there is also the option of acrylics which are a little more expensive and time consuming but they can last really long. They also make gel nail wraps, which are stick on gel nail strips that easily stick on to your nail.
You can also try doing your own nails which have lots of great benefits. One of the benefits is getting to choose your own colors and not feeling like you are on a timer or overwhelmed when they ask you to pick your color at the salon. It also is great practice especially when you have to use your non dominate hand. It is a lot cheaper and you can change your color if you don’t end up liking it. Doing your own can also help if you are wanting to start your nail growth/strength journey, so you can keep up with it yourself.
