This past Saturday, January 21st, Makena, Maggie, and I visited Ascension Coffe Shop at 1751 River Run Suite #151 off of University. We made a reservation for noon, and when we arrived, we were sat immediately. The service to our table was great, and there is also a to-go option for quick coffee runs, as well as Grubhub services. Both the Drink and Food menus had so many options, and neither of us could decide what to get because everything looked so good. So here’s what we did get…
Makena ordered the bacon + egg, + cheese with a croissant bun. I got the choice to have a bagel as my bun or a croissant, and the croissant was delicious. It was the perfect softness and a perfect amount of flavor to the point where it didn’t take away from the sandwich itself. The sandwich was very flavorful, and I added Cholula hot sauce, which made the flavor even better. I also ordered an iced salted caramel mocha latte which had the perfect amount of salted caramel to mocha ratio. Overall I rate my meal an 8/10.
Maggie ordered a Veggie Sammie on a bagel. It consisted of cage-free eggs, white cheddar, avocado, arugula, and sun-dried tomato aioli on top of your choice of a croissant or bagel. You also have a choice to get a side of potatoes. The sandwich was delicious and healthy, especially once I added the Cholula hot sauce. It was flavorful and had the perfect amount of protein for a yummy breakfast; the veggie sammie was a 9/10. The side of potatoes where very good but a little soft. But they would have been a little bit better if they were crunchier. I give the potatoes a 6.5/10. Along with her sandwich and potatoes, she ordered a Golden Milk Latte and added a shot of espresso, which had spiced turmeric, vanilla, and hemp milk. The coffee was almost a little too spiced for a coffee with breakfast, but still was yummy, cozy, and tasted warm, so it gets a 7/10. Her meal cost a little more than $20 at the end and was a 7.5/10.
Hannah ordered Smoked Turkey Club with Bacon, Dill Caper Spread, white cheddar, tomato, and romaine, on toasted hippie bread paired with their signature spicy ranch sauce. This was truly the best Sandwich I have ever had. The bacon was cooked perfectly, and the Dill Spread perfectly complemented the Spicy Ranch. I also shared a Blueberry Lemon Scone with the girls. It was very good but definitely could have had a little more flavor. To pair with my meal, I ordered the Bhakti Chai Latte, which had a little bit of spice to it but was still very creamy and delicious.
