TCU and Georgia are facing off in the 2023 College Football Playoff National Championship. The National Championship will be hosted at Sofi Stadium, located in Los Angeles, California. Sofi Stadium is the home of the LA Rams and Los Angeles Chargers. The game will be played on Monday, January 9 at 6:30 pm CST/ 4:30 pm PST. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN and ESPN streaming platforms.

The TCU Horned Frogs are 13-1 entering this game, with their one loss coming from Kansas State in their Big 12 Championship game. TCU beat Michigan in the 2022 VRBO Fiesta Bowl 51-45. TCU is led by Max Duggan, a Heisman finalist and 2022 Davey O’Brien award recipient. Duggan is the first TCU quarterback to win the award since Davey O’Brien went to TCU in the mid to late 1930s. On defense, TCU has Trevius Hodges-Tomlinson, the 2022 Jim Thorpe award winner, awarded to the best defensive back in college football annually.

TCU’s Head Coach, Sonny Dykes won seven coach of the year awards in 2022. This is his first year as head coach of TCU and Dykes has already led them to the CFP. If TCU wins the National Championship then they will be the first team to win the National Championship with a first year head coach in the CFP era. 

The Georgia Bulldogs are 14-0 entering this game. They won out in SEC football beating teams such as LSU, Tennessee, and Mississippi State. Georgia defeated Ohio State 42-41 on a  missed Ohio State field goal as the clock struck midnight, ringing in the New Year with a Georgia win in the 2022 Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl. Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett, a Heisman finalist, who has put up very good stats this year. Bennett’s favorite target is Brock Bowers, Georgia’s sophomore tight end.

Brock Bowers won the 2022 John Mackey award signaling Bowers was the most outstanding tight end in college football this year. Georgia’s coach, Kirby Smart, is in his seventh year coaching Georgia with an all-time record of 80-15 and a record of 7-2 in bowl games. He has led Georgia to the National Championship three times, the first time being in 2017 where they lost to Alabama, and the second being last year, where they won the 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship against Alabama. If Georgia wins the 2023 CFP National Championship, then they will be the first team in the era of the CFP to win the championship back to back.
