After the 6th weekend of College Football, there were four games that featured two ranked opponents playing each other. In three of these four ranked matchups, the lower ranked teams won. The winners of these were Oklahoma, Louisville, and LSU. In the other matchup, the #1 ranked team in the country, Georgia, routed their opponent, Kentucky.
#12 Oklahoma played #3 Texas at a neutral site game for the Red River Rivalry game. This neutral site game was played in the Cotton Bowl Stadium, which is in Dallas, Texas. Oklahoma won this game 34-30, they won off of a game winning touchdown that they scored with 23 seconds left in the game. Oklahoma won because of Texas’ three turnovers, with two of them coming from interceptions at the start of the game, and a fumble by the Texas quarterback, Quinn Ewers in the third quarter. #25 Louisville played #10 Notre Dame in Louisville and won 33-20. Louisville won this game because of their late game resurgence, scoring 26 points in the second half compared to Notre Dame’s 13. They also won because of Notre Dame’s five turnovers, three of which were interceptions from Notre Dame’s quarterback, Sam Hartman, and two fumbles from Sam Hartman. #23 LSU went to Columbia to play #21 Missouri, and won 49-39. LSU won because of their second half resurgence, outsourcing Missouri 32-14 in the second half. Missouri’s quarterback also had two interceptions, with one of them being a pick six with 40 seconds left in the game, to seal the game for an LSU win.
#1 Georgia played #20 Kentucky in Athens and won 51-13. This was a big game for the Bulldogs as they had shown signs of struggle in their two other SEC matchups against South Carolina and Auburn. But this game showed how Georgia is still the #1 team in college football. Georgia won this game because of their 608 yards of total offense compared to Kentucky’s 183 yards. Georgia’s quarterback Carson Beck also showed his dominance over this game, throwing for 389 yards and four touchdowns to win it for Georgia.
